Welding is in High Demand

Very broadly, skilled labor includes professions with specific knowledge and skills in their area of expertise without long-term training. Along with other careers in the trade industry, welding has been a predominant career option on most job boards. The American Welding Society (AWS) estimates there will be a shortage of nearly 400,000 welders in the industry by 2024.

Extreme shortage of qualified welders

One thing we know for sure is that skilled labor is in high demand. Much of the shortage is being driven by baby boomers retiring from the workforce over the next five years. And the pandemic has increased the shortage due to many retiring earlier than planned. Another reason for the shortage is misinformation on the trade industry. Many young people do not have enough information on a career in welding when choosing their future school and/or profession. They are unaware of things like compensation, career growth opportunities and the variety of places welding allows you to work.

How can Arclabs help?

This is not an unsolvable problem and Arclabs knows this. Offering programs that can be completed in less than one year, we are doing our part in helping to fill welding jobs. We have programs that will teach each process (GMAW, SMAW, FCAW, GTAW) separately or combine them into an all-inclusive program that trains on specialty metals like aluminum, stainless, and copper.
