Becoming a welder may be exactly what you are looking for. A welder is an experienced tradesperson who concentrates on joining metals by using heat with hand-held or remotely regulated devices.
Welders may work with numerous different metals including steel, stainless steel, aluminum, cast iron, copper/brass, magnesium alloys or titanium. Arclabs Welding School teaches students which types of welding processes are used for different types of metals.
Requirements to Enroll in a Welding Program
So, you’re interested in started a career as a welder, but unsure where to begin. The first thing you’ll want to do is begin your search for a welding program to earn your welding certificate and certifications. For most trade schools, including Arclabs Welding School, requirements for curriculum-based programs include:
- Valid High School diploma or GED
- Minimum age of 18 years old (or 17 years old with parental consent)
- Visual and physical capabilities required for a welding career
- A campus visit and tour prior to starting class
For our veteran students, you must be able to supply transcripts from all post-secondary institutes previously attended and funded with VA educational benefits.
Arclabs Welding School
Once you’ve found the school you want to attend, you’ll begin taking classes. Arclabs offers a wide range of programs to fit your needs including day and evening courses.
Our 1,300-hour Master Welder Program is designed to train beginners and welders with some experience who want to be skilled in all four processes: GMAW, SMAW, FCAW and GTAW. This program also builds skills that are in high demand, such as welding specialty metals like stainless steel and aluminum. Upon completion of graduation, you could be qualified for up to three American Welding Society (AWS) certifications.
The 900-hour Advanced Welding Program is extensive structural and pipe welding training for beginner welders and welders with some experience. This program trains SMAW, FCAW, GMAW and GTAW processes. Upon completion of graduation, you could be qualified for up to two American Welding Society (AWS) certifications.
Our 400-hour Welding Program trains on SMAW, FCAW and GMAW welding processes. This program is great for beginners and welders with some experience.
The 280-hour Specific Process Programs is designed for both beginners and welders with some experience. The beginner welders receive training on FCAW and GMAW processes while seasoned welders can receive training on SMAW or GTAW.
We also offer a 120-hour Pipe Welding Program for experienced welders who are looking to improve their pipe welding skills in either SMAW or GTAW.
Job Search
Once you have completed your program and received a certificate and possible AWS certifications, it’s time to begin your job search and begin your career. Arclabs Welding School partners with our students to assist them with job placement.
In each curriculum-based program, we teach job preparations where students hone their resume writing and interview skills. We assist graduates with resume prep, interviews, employment search and preparing for employers’ weld tests. We also invite local employers to career fairs to give students and graduates valuable face to face time and interview opportunities.
